On 5 October 1965 Lt John C. Hauschildt, as the pilot of an F-100 on a pre-strike mission. The plane was observed to go in on an ordnance run, made contact with ground, and exploded about 7 miles NW of Tuy Hoa, Vietnam. The specific cause unknown, but there was enemy ground fire in the area.
He was a member of the 481st TFS at time of his death. He had flown over 75 combat missions.
Information received from Hq USAF hpa confirmed recent recovery of Lt Hauschildt's body, and arrangements have been made for burial here at the Academy on Monday, 23 May 1966.
