Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He was a member of the United States Olympic Rowing Team that competed at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games in London, England. After graduating from high school in Seattle, Washington, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He enrolled at the University of Washington after his discharge from service, and in 1948 was part of the school's rowing team that won the competition for the honor of representing the United States at the Games in London. There, whilke serving as the coxswain, he and his fellow school and teammates Warren Westlund, Bob Martin, Bob Will and Gordy Giovanelli defeated the rowing teams from Switzerland and Denmark to win the Gold Medal in the Coxed Four Rowing Event.
