Walter J. "Jim" Powell, 71, of Brackenridge, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born Aug. 21, 1950, in Natrona Heights, to the late William and Orpha (Blystone) Powell. Jim lived most of his life in Brackenridge. He was a welder for 30 years at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge. Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, serving in the Marine Corps. He was a member of Guardian Angels Parish, St. Joseph Church, Natrona, and was also a former Scout leader. Jim graduated in 1968 from Har Brack High School. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoyed traveling and his pasttime of sitting on his porch drinking coffee. Jim especially enjoyed his family, children and most of all his grandchildren. Survivors include his children, James M. (Kelly) Powell, of Fawn Township, Amy R. (Michael) Baer, of West Kittanning, Keith A. (Camilla) Powell, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Michael J. (Emily) Powell, of Saxonburg, and 10 grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Ann (Vertosick) Powell, in 2020; brothers, Louis, Richard, William and Donald Powell, and sisters, Betty Jones, Diana Kendall, Shirley Hoak and Alice Sample. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 347 E. Tenth Ave., Tarentum, 724-224-1526, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mt. Airy Mausoleum, Natrona Heights, with military honors. Allegheny Valley Marine Corps League will hold services at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
