Life Legacy

SHARON BISHOP
Indianola

A Celebration of Life Service for Sharon Bishop, 77, who passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at home, will be held 7 p.m., Saturday, May 13 at the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola. Burial of cremains will be in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Sharon was born in Atlantic, Iowa and lived in Walnut, Adair, Elk Horn, and Marcus. She graduated from Marcus in 1957 and was proud to receive her diploma from her father who was the superintendent of schools at the time. Upon graduating from Simpson College with a 2 year teaching degree, she taught school in Maquoketa and Clinton.

While taking summer school courses at Simpson, she met her future husband and Indianola native Max Bishop. Max and Sharon settled on a farm northwest of Indianola and raised their family. Sharon worked in the Indianola Community School District as a teacher, a teachers’ aide and volunteer most of her adult life. She loved the energy around the school and especially working with special needs students. Max and Sharon also held many roles in managing the Warren County Fair over 40 years. While Max was often the face of Fair, Sharon was ultimately responsible for keeping it running smoothly. Sharon loved family gatherings, all of the holidays (especially Christmas) and cooking and baking for all events her kids and grand children were involved.

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Forrest Max Bishop; her parents Howard and Merle Fitzgerald; brother Jack Fitzgerald and sister Jane Rae. Sharon is survived by four children: Jo (Martin) Reynolds and children Blake, Allison (Dillon) Cunningham, and Brandan, Jill (Mike) Hartquist and children Madison and Chase, Jamie Bishop and children Jensen, Jackson and Regan, and Jack (Amy) Bishop and children Rachel, Emma, Mara and Brynn; two great grand children – Dayton and Dominic Cunningham; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, prior to services, at the church. Memorials may be given in Sharon’s name to the Indianola Dollars for Scholars, for selection of a student going into education. To submit an online condolence visit our website at www.overtonfunerals.com.
