Man Killed In Accident At Mine

A 21-year-old Richlands, Va., man was killed instantly Wednesday morning in a mine accident at Standard Smokeless Coal Co., mine at Contrary, Va., officials said.
Harvey Lee Lester of the Hill Creek section of Richlands died instantly between 7 and 7:30 a.m. of crushing injuries to the head, chest and shoulders. He was seated on the back of a mine locomotive, or motor, which he was operating, and apparently backed it up under a mine car, officials reported. He was crushed between the car and the motor.
Born at Wardell, he was a son of Luther and Violet Gilbert Lester.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Linda Sisk Lester; two sisters, Louise Lester of Cedar Bluff, Va., and Margaret Lester of Wardell; three brothers, Robert Lester of Richlands, Hubert and Ralph Lester of Wardell; and one half - brother. Junior Ball of Cliffield, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday a t 2 p.m. at Richlands Tabernacle with Rev. Grat Horton and Rev. Carl Robinson officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Va.
The body will be taken to the home of the parents from Hurst Scott Funeral Home in Richlands today at 4 p.m.
