SALLY EILEEN (ZODY) SPRENG, 74, of Perrysville, Ohio, died peacefully Monday, May, 8, 2017 at home.

Sally was born April 12, 1943, to James Feightner and Bette Eileen (Leech) Zody in Ashland, Ohio. She was a 1961 graduate of Perrysville High School, receiving the last diploma before the school was consolidated. Sally had worked at Swede’s Snack Shack, the Mansfield Sanitary Pottery (1961-1972), Truax Printing, Loudonville-Perrysville Schools (1989-2001) and Greenlawn Union Cemetery as clerk (1993-2014).

Sally was extremely computer-literate and shared her knowledge and expertise freely with anyone needing computer assistance, even making house calls on many occasions. She provided computer skills and hundreds of hours to index the Ashland Cemetery Burial Records book, creating spread sheets of 20,000 names and data. She also indexed the Loudonville Newspaper Deaths from 1903 to 1986 prepared by Esther Nave Harris. This index created 28,000 names and data.

Her love of genealogy was exhibited as a very active member of the Ohio Genealogical Society; Ashland, Richland and Wayne County Chapters of the OGS. Sally was treasurer of the Ashland Chapter for 11 years and was on the newsletter mailing team. She was a Brownie Girl Scout leader and opened her home to several years of Girl Scout day camp, Camp Lepabagosa, for the Girl Scouts of the Loudonville-Perrysville Service Unit. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Lucas Historical Society, Perrysville Mothers’ Club and the Perrysville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed keeping the Zody and Spreng family trees up-to-date and sending out the yearly newsletters. On May 11, 2016, she received the Black Cane Award for her many years of volunteerism. Her hobbies included wood carving, photography and paper cutting, in addition to genealogical research.

On December 4, 1971 she married Don Floyd Spreng, who remains. Sally was devoted to her family who consists of two daughters: Stacie White and Jill (Jamie) Book, all of Perrysville, four grandchildren: Brooke Beachler, and Joshua, Jenna and Josie Book; one brother: Tom (Dori) Zody of Perrysville; and nieces and nephews: Bryan (Wendy) Zody and Tori (Morgan) Haudenschild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Jeffrey White.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, Perrysville, with Pastor Bege Wiegman officiating and Pastor Richard Beal assisting. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, State Route 39, Perrysville, Ohio. Friends may call at the LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME in Loudonville on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her memory be made to St. John Lutheran Church, c/o Nancy Gebhart, Treasurer, 2329 County Road 2157, Perrysville, Ohio, 44864 or Perrysville Firefighters Association, 181 E.
