Rose I. Day passed away on June 3, 2013, at her home in Winnemucca, Nev., at the age of 94.

Rose, a native of Paradise Valley, Nev., was born March 27, 1919, to Steve and Lucia Boggio at their family ranch. Steve Boggio was a native of Quitenego, Italy, coming to Paradise Valley in 1909 where he became involved in the ranching business. Her mother came to the valley from Passobreve, Italy, in 1910.

Rose was educated in Paradise Valley schools and graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1935. She attended the University of Nevada and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Education in 1939. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She attended summer school at Fresno State College in 1941. She taught school at Stillwater and Carlin, Nev., before she married J. Kirk Day in 1942. Kirk was at that time in the Navy Air Corps and was discharged from the service in 1946. They moved to Winnemucca where he was an Agricultural Extension Agent.

Rose had many interests and talents. She was a substitute teacher in the Winnemucca public schools for over 10 years. She loved to paint using various mediums and did beautiful needlework. She also enjoyed playing card games but especially loved the game of Bridge. Her family, however, was her most loved and important interest.

Every year she and her husband planted a large garden and then she would can and freeze as much as possible. She also raised beautiful flowers, including irises and roses, in her yard during the summer.

Rose was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church, St. Paul's Altar Society, Winnemucca Fine Arts Gallery, Winnemucca Artists Association, 50-year member of the Daughters of the Nile Library Club, American Association of Retired People, and the Nevada Historical Society.

She is preceded in death by parents Steve and Lucia Boggio, brother Joseph Boggio, sister Tracy Boggio, and husband of 67 years, Kirk Day. She has sons Steven Day of Winnemucca and Dr. Michael Day of Sparks; daughter-in-law, Mary Day, grandsons Brian and Christopher day and nephews, Joe Boggio, Harold Boggio, Duane Boggio, Eugene Kirk Vancil and Melvin Vancil.

Memorial mass will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Winnemucca on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, St. Paul's Catholic Church or a charity of their choice. "Her heart is with her family."
