Dorothy J. Abernathy, of Torrington, Wyoming, formerly of Longmont, died February 12, 2011 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She was 88 years old.

Dorothy was born on October 21, 1922, in Boulder, the daughter of Archie and Christina (Miklauz) Moore. She was raised in the Rinn area and graduated from Erie High School in 1941.

Dorothy married James Abernathy on August 30, 1941, in Longmont. Dorothy and James moved to Erie, Michigan for a time before coming back to Longmont where they worked on a farm from 1948 to 1955. Dorothy worked at Great Western Sugar for fourteen years as a clerk and then for eleven years at Longmont Toyota until her eyesight forced her to retire in 1988. Dorothy and James moved to Torrington in 1994.

Dorothy loved to sew, fish, knit, crochet, travel and cook. She was a member of the Extension Club, Rinn Valley Grange, and a Breakfast Club.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Carolyn Jeanette Andes.

She is survived by her husband, James of Torrington; her son, Douglas Abernathy (Julie) of Torrington; two sisters, Marguerite(Robert) of Denver and Mabel Colleen of Mesa, Arizona; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation has taken place
