Bonnie Jeanne Albert Vetter was born on September 15, 1926 on the family farm five miles southwest of Glen Elder, Kansas. Her parents were William and Zella (Burger) Albert. She died on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit at the age of 90. Bonnie attended Walnut Creek grade school, and graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1944. After graduation, she went to work at Terry’s Drug Store in Glen Elder for one year. Then she moved to Beloit and worked at Duckwall’s until her future husband Richard came home from the Marines. They were married in 1947. They lived most of their married life on a farm northwest of Beloit, and were the parents of three children – one daughter and two sons. She was a homemaker, mother, and a partner in the family work of farming and stock operation. She loved riding in the parades with her husband on their quarter horses, was an avid bridge player, and loved to travel. Bonnie was a member of the Federated Quest Club and the Beloit Country Club. She was also an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Church Circle. Her family was always close to her, and her grandchildren were a very important part of her life. She saw them often, and never missed sending them a card or gift on holidays, and they all knew here as Grammy Bonnie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister Barbara Beck; six brothers, Lawrence, Nova, Francis, Quentin, Calvin, and Billie; and one granddaughter-in-law, Darcy Dempsey-Schmidt. Bonnie is survived by her daughter Sherry Schmidt and husband LaVerne of Newton, Kansas; sons Rick and wife Kathi of Beloit, and Randy and wife Lisa of Arkansas City; two sisters-in-law, Florence Albert of Beloit and Elsie Vetter of Wahoo, NE; brother-in-law, Clifford Vetter of Formoso; 7 grandchildren, Jim Schmidt and wife Sarah of Manhattan, Michelle Holm and husband Matt of Abilene, Mika Graham of Arkansas City, Tarl Vetter and wife Joy of Boston, MA, Jason Vetter of Wamego, Richard Vetter and wife Shawna of Eudora, and Madisyn Vetter of Beloit; 15 great grandchildren; and a host of extended relatives and many friends.
