He was born on 25 Aug 1917 in Mpls, MN. to Robert & Ida (Nelson) Carlton. He moved wih his family to the township of Evergreen when he was an infant and has resided on the same family farm since that time. He graduated from Spooner High School in 1935. He completed a teacher's training program and taught in area schools for six years, in addition to his dairy farming.
Don was married to June Keller on 21 May 1941. Together they continued to farm at their home in Evergreen until he retired in 1985.
He is survived by three children, Nancy (Bud) Bixby, Carolyn (Bruce) Losey and Reggie (Rohanda)Carlton, all of Spooner. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, neices and nephews.
Preceded in death by one son, Warren, his parents, one brother, Robert and one sister, Jennie Stellrecht.
Memorial service was held on Monday, 14 Aug. at the Church of the Nazarene in Spooner, with Pastor Dave Frazer officiating. Dahl Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
The family will honor Don's request that his ashes be spread on a certain place on the property, what he called "the hill by the orchard". He has lived there his entire life, from the time he was six months old; and he loved it so much.
He also has a headstone with his wife located in Block B3, Lot 9 in Spooner Cemetery, Spooner, Washburn County, Wisconsin
