U.S. Army Air Corp Sergeant Alfred E. WIETERS died in the crash of his Flying Fortress after it was shot down by the German Luftwaffe over Jauldes near Montignac, France. Alfred was a machine gunner aboard the plane - one of seven of ten crew members who died that day in June 1944.

He grew up in Glenwood, Gage Co., NE the son of William C. WIETERS and Hilda THIELE all buried at St. John's near Lanham, NE on the Kansas side.

Last post was as a machine gunner aboard the 'Channel Express' U. S. Army 8th Air Force, 612nd Bomber Squadron, 401st Heavy Bomber Group.
