Joanne S. Cox, age 84, of New Wilmington, passed away the morning of January 30, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown Ohio.
Born October 31, 1931, in New Castle, she was a daughter of Robert and Johanna Schuster Saylor.
Joanne married the love of her life, James C. Cox on February 24, 1951. He survives at home.
Upon graduation from New Castle High School in June 1948, Joanne began working for Bell Telephone as a personal secretary, later working for Dr. Kenney and Dr. Deitz as an office assistant.
Joanne truly enjoyed caring for her family and especially treasured the times spent together at their cottage in Slippery Rock. She also enjoyed reading, and following the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pitt Panthers. She was a member of the Croton United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was the treasurer of the Faith Bible Class.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Judge J. Craig Cox and his wife Deborah of New Wilmington; a daughter, Courtney Cox of Franklin PA; and one grandson, Christopher J. Cox of New Wilmington, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janet Wexman.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00am at the funeral home with Rev. John Jefferis officiating.
Burial will be in Fair Oaks Cemetery in New Wilmington.
