Actor. Born John Sigurd Olsen in Wabash, Indiana, after graduating with a music degree from Northwestern University he became a vaudevillian actor and piano player. He soon teamed up with another entertainer, Chic Johnson. He was the "straight man" of their famous music/comedy act. Their hit Broadway show "Hellzapoppin" was at the time the third longest running Broadway production. They made the play into a successful movie in 1942. They also starred in "Ghost Catchers," "See my Lawyer" and "Crazy House" on the bigscreen. They returned to Broadway with the productions of "Sons O' Fun" and "Pardoned my French." His famous quote "May you live as long as you laugh and laugh as long as you live" is inscribed on his tombstone. At his death his family buried him next to his longtime partner, Chic Johnson.
