Marcia Ann Hancock , Brunswick, Georgia
November 19, 1936 - May 5, 2017

Marcia A. (Punky) Hancock, a lifelong resident of Brunswick, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5th at Hospice of the Golden Isles.

Born in 1936, Punky was a proud 1954 graduate of Glynn Academy, and a member of the Pirates of the Spanish Main. She received her BA in Education from Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern) in 1958. While at college, she became a part of the VC, a group of women friends who have supported one another for decades.

Punky was active in many church and community organizations over the years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brunswick, belonging to the Wisdom Seekers Sunday School class, the choir, the ladies ensemble, and the hand bell choir. She excelled in giving her children "the look" from the choir loft. She was an Exchangette and a member of the Jr. Women's Club. Punky enjoyed her monthly Bridge Club meetings (at which no bridge was played) and spending time with her family and many friends, who were all very special to her.

Punky is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Jana and Ken Johnson of Savannah, Paige and Allen Fagan of Brunswick, and Jamie and Mark Bearden of St. Simons Island. Even more important to her were her grandchildren, Chrissy (Wes) Hooks of Hilton Head, Brett Bearden of St. Simons Island, and Courtney Johnson of Atlanta, who were in turn outranked by great-grandsons Hudson and Barrett Hooks of Hilton Head. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, James E. (Jimmy) Hancock, her father E.C. Allen, and mother Courtney Allen Gay.

Family will receive friends 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, the 9th of May 2017 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Ave. in Brunswick, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Edo miller and Sons Funeral Home, where Reverend Jim Crandall will officiate. Burial will follow the service with a funeral cortege to Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity. Or in the true spirit of Punky, go buy something frivolous for yourself.
