Obituary for Rita Hood

Rita Palmer Hood, 69, died on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born November 16, 1946 in Amory, she was daughter of Rubel F. and Oleen Seals Palmer. Prior to her retirement, she worked for over 40 years as a hair stylist and beautician, and took great pride in her work. An avid MSU fan, she also enjoyed shopping, working in her flower beds, and crossword puzzles. Her best time was spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Amory.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will be in the Hatley Cemetery.

Survivors include her son, Jason Hood (Kayla) of Amory; niece and nephew, whom she helped raise, Elisabeth Oliver and Daniel Williams (Kelly); one brother, Butch Palmer (Vickie) of Smithville; one sister, Mary Jo Palmer Huffman (Robert) of Louisville; 13 grandchildren, Tanner, Skyler, Natalie, Cade, Mary Haley, Camden, Owen, Ann Marie, Braden, Colton, Carlisle, Trace, and Briggs; niece, Nikki Sandifer (Jamie); nephew, Micah Huffman (Sarah); and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Janice Palmer Williams; and brother-in-law, Larry Williams.

Pallbearers will be Michael Harlow, Brad Taylor, Micah Huffman, Tanner Palmer, Skyler Oliver, and Cade Oliver. Her great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will continue until service time on Saturday.
