Mr. Bill Waddell went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, May 5, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice House in Whiteville. He was born on January 18, 1932, in Fair Bluff to Mr. Joseph Franklin Waddell and Ida Virginia Turner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Pansy Leigh Collins Waddell and two brothers, John Burton Waddell and Robert Allen Waddell, Sr.

Bill was a lifelong member of Fair Bluff United Methodist Church. He loved his church and served it faithfully throughout his lifetime as Chairman of the Finance Committee, Chairman of the Administrative Council, Chairman of the Trustees, Chairman of Pastor/Parish Relations Committee and in numerous additional capacities in which he was needed. In addition, he was a lifelong member of the Fair Bluff United Methodist Men. He also served as Columbus County Deputy Tax Collector for several years, was a NC National Guardsman, and a member of the Columbus County Police Commission.

Being born and living his entire life on the family farm, he raised and modeled for his family strong ethics, values and faith. His family meant the world to him! He leaves to cherish years of wonderful memories, his daughter, Kathy Waddell Lewis (Archie), his son, William Michael Waddell (Amy) and his daughter, Leigh Waddell Brown (Mark). He was blessed with 6 beloved grandchildren: Casey Waddell Nealy (Stephen), Kelli Waddell Jones (Conner), William Cole Lewis, Leslie Anne Waddell, Ethan Alexander Brown and Eli Michael Brown, and a soon-to-arrive great grandchild, William Jackson Nealy. He also leaves behind a cherished sister, Betty Waddell Willis, several cousins, nieces and nephews and our family’s beloved Donna Collins Haynes. In addition, he leaves behind an extra special friend, Ms. Margaret Greene.

A celebration service commemorating his life will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017, 3:00 at Fair Bluff United Methodist Church with Reverend Neill Smith officiating. The family will receive friends during visitation at the church at 2:00 prior to the service. Burial will be conducted in Powell Cemetery, Fair Bluff.
