Charles Harvey Bolin was born on May 25, 1942 in Alexandria, Minnesota to Harvey and Mildred (Johnson) Bolin. He grew up around Brandon, mainly on Big Lake Chippewa. Charles was baptized and confirmed at Lake Chippewa Covenant Church, North of Garfield. He graduated from Brandon High School. Charles entered the U.S. Army in 1961, stationed at Fort Leonardwood in Missouri and Fort Dix in New Jersey, and later was a member of the Army Reserves. He worked at the Garfield Elevator and Runestone Electric Association. On October 5, 1963, Charles was married to Marcia Larson. In 1972, he started farming south of Brandon, where he raised livestock and grain. A son, Mitchell was born in 1977.
Charles was on the Board of Directors at Gardonville Telephone Association for many years. He was a member of Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon where he served on that church board from time to time. Charles' love for hunting and fishing came from his dad. He hunted locally on his farm and up north near Kellier, with his dad and uncles, and later with his son. He also enjoyed fishing on various lakes in the area, but mainly on Big Chippewa Lake where he grew up.
Charles died on Friday, May 5, 2017 at his home near Brandon at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; son, Mitchell (Kristine) Bolin; two grandchildren, Carter and Ava; sister, Bette Angen; and several nieces and nephews. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Mildred Bolin.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, May 8, 2017, at the Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Military Honors will be provided by the Brandon American Legion Post 278 and the Minnesota National Honor Guard.
