Mike Childers, 69, of Abilene died Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at 10:00 am at The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander St., with Rev. Scott Mayer officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Mike was born to Cecil and Leura Childers on May 12, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1958 and served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1962 when he was honorably discharged. He married BeeAnn Gilchrist in 1960. Mike was a long time Oilman in Abilene. He earned his Stock Broker license in 1962 and earned his Real Estate Broker license in 1972.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Charles Michael Childers, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Childers-Pool of Dallas, his son, Mark G. Childers of Washington, D.C., his brother, Dr. Cecil A. Childers of Corpus Christi, Texas, and three grandchildren. Memorial may be made to the West Texas Rehab Center, 4601 Hartford St., Abilene, Texas 79605
