My father-in-law, Joe Neil Clayton, shed his earthly tent this last Monday, May 2, 2017 (born Nov. 28, 1928). Some on this forum might have known him from his time at Abilene Christian, or heard of a group he was part of there known as the "Nauseating Nine." If you've heard of them, you know the fun and humor this family has been blessed with (some might say "endured") for these last 67 years. But he also loved history and studying the Restoration Movement. He wrote a short booklet, "The Thunderous Silence of God," examining the thoughts and implications of Thomas Campbell's well-known Restoration appeal. However, his first love was preaching the simple Gospel. He preached his first sermon at age 16, and labored as a full-time evangelist from 1951 until 2009, when he slowed down to help care for his wife, Selma, who left us just a year and a half ago. His work took him from Oklahoma and Texas to Montana, Alabama to California, and back to Texas. We lay his body to rest tomorrow in Sachse, Texas. His care for others and simple way to bring the message home will be missed by many. ---Joe Rose, Friends of the Restoration
