Bernard S. Holm, 88, of Londonderry, NH, died Sunday, February 29, 2004 in Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Mr. Holm was born in Derry, NH on July 26, 1915, a son of the late Alfred and Barbara (Theiss) Holm. He was a resident of Londonderry and Derry for most of his life. He was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Derry, Class of 1934. While attending high school he was Captain of the basketball team for two years and the baseball team for one year, as well as played football.


He served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Yosemite for 18 months and was a plank owner of the Yosemite. He served as one of the committee members that started the Derry Little League.


He was employed by Wells Motor and later by Beacon Fast Freight for 45 years as a truck driver, retiring in 1979. He received a Certificate of Continuous Membership of 50 years from the American Legion, Lester Chase Post #9 in Derry on March 15, 1995. He was an active member of the Manchester Wellness Center. Mr. Holm was awarded a Bronze Skiing Medal from Nasta at the age of 75 and continued skiing until the age of 87.


He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lorraine (Ninan) Holm of Londonderry, one daughter, [Redacted] Holm of Derry, two grandsons, [Redacted] J. Matarozzo of Rochester, NH, [Redacted] J. Matarozzo of Derry, one sister, [Redacted] H. Keniston of San Antonio, TX, two brothers, [Redacted] N. Holm of Derry, [Redacted] Holm of Londonderry, many nieces and nephews.


There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Thursday March 4th at 10:00am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Burial will be in the spring in Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry.
