Mary Ellen Koogler Showalter, 77, of Dayton, Virginia, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017, at her home.
Mrs. Showalter was born July 12, 1939, in Dayton, VA, and was the daughter of the late Daniel Wenger and Josie Irene Good Koogler. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Mennonite Church.
On October 27, 1960 at the Old Order Mennonite Church, she married William Heatwole Showalter, who preceded her in death August 8, 1975.
Surviving are her children, Ray Lynn Showalter and wife, Betty, of Dayton, Ellen Rhodes and husband, Owen Lee, of Dayton, Esther Wenger and husband, Gerald, of Dayton, Rosalie Heatwole and husband, Maynard, of Harrisonburg, Marie Zimmerman and husband, Jeffrey, of Dayton, Evelyn Beery and husband, Arlen, of Dayton, Wendell Showalter and wife, Alta, of Bridgewater, and Willard Showalter and wife, Mary Ellen, of Dayton; sister and brothers, Louise Rhodes and husband, John, Charles Koogler and wife, Margaret, James Koogler and wife, Mary, and Lewis Koogler; a sister-in-law, Norma Koogler; sixty grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Showalter was preceded in death by two brothers, William Koogler and Eber Koogler, and three stillborn grandchildren.
The ministers of the church will conduct a funeral service Monday, May 8, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Pleasant View Old Order Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The body will be taken to her home, where friends may call until 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
