A native of Avery County, Paul was born on April 1, 1932 to the late Jesse Franklin and Bessie Benfield Franklin.
Paul operated Franklin Sawmill in the Bill’s Creek area of Rutherford County for many years. An avid trout fisherman, he worked about every fishing hole on Armstrong Creek. Paul was a good provider for his family and was a loving husband and father and was a true Southern gentleman.
His beloved wife of 62 years, Doris Bennick Franklin, and a son, Paul Franklin, Jr., preceded him in death.
Two sons, Michael and Kenneth Franklin, both of Marion, and a brother, R.J. Franklin, as well as one granddaughter, Carol Rager, survive.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Ray Stockton officiating where he will be laid to rest beside his dearly loved Doris.
