Janice Irene Church Fox, 80, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Presence St. Anne Center. She was born May 13, 1936, in Madison, Wisconsin; the daughter of Jerome and Irene Church.
Jan graduated from West High School in 1954. She later attended Southern Methodist for two years and then back to Rockford to graduate from Rockford College. She began her teaching career for forty seven years at Marsh and Spring Creek Elementary Schools.
In 1965, Jan moved to Sacramento, California, area with her daughter and continued teaching until her retirement in 2004. While living in California, Jan met her husband, Hank, on a blind date. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary November 20, 2016.
Jan and Hank moved to Rockford in 2004. Jan always thought of herself as a Californian. She learned to love Rockford because of all the many friends she made in Leading Ladies, Age Quake Theater, Rockford Choral Union, Dream Sweepers, (A Sweepstakes Club), the Rockford Stamp Club and her great neighbors.
She was very close to her West High School friends who met regularly for lunch and games.
She is survived by: husband, Henry Preston "Hank" Fox; daughter, Jana (Mike) Fitzpatrick; brother, Jim (Mary Ann) Church; step-daughters; step-mother, Lola Church; grandchildren; nephews; cousins.
Private service at Willwood Memorial Park.
