Harry Plummer Caldwell
June 12, 1916 - June 8, 2012
Raleigh
Harry P. Caldwell died on Friday, June 8th, just four days shy of his 96th birthday. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Patton Caldwell. Harry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Harry began his career with Carolina Power & Light Company as a lineman in Asheville, N.C. In 1950 he was transferred to Raleigh. He retired in 1981 as Purchasing Agent after 45 years with the company. He was member of the CP&L Pioneer Club. Harry was a committed Christian and was a charter member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church. He served on the Vestry several times and spent a great deal of time at the church after his retirement. He and Dorothy began the Friday bridge group that still is being enjoyed today at St. Michaels. Harry enjoyed golf, UNC athletics, and his cherished family and friends. He was a true southern gentleman that loved and provided for his family in every way. He will be missed; but he leaves behind a loving legacy to anyone that knew him.
He is survived by his son, Harry Patton Caldwell of Richmond, VA and his daughter, Martha Cline and son in law Gary, two grandchildren, Ronald Bourgoin of Clarksville, VA and Dorothy Patton Bourgoin of Knightdale, NC. Harry was so proud of his three great grandchildren, Deja, Ocean and Parker.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Wake County. Our entire family will always be indebted to Dr. William Lee for the loving support and care he gave to both of our parents. We would also like to thank the staff of Morningside Assisted Living for giving our father, a final place to call home. The unconditional love and guidance offered by each staff member was a gift that enriched our lives and gave our father a place where he was respected and cared for as a unique individual. Our final years with our father is filled with treasured memories.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, NC on Wednesday, June 13th at 2pm. The family will receive friends in the Convocation Room after the service.
