Taylor was a high school graduate of Cass Tech and later Wayne State University Medical School; completing his residency and a fellowship in surgical pathology at William Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak after serving as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy. Taylor A. Lewis, M.D., served as associate director at Quest Diagnostics in Michigan for 32 years until his retirement in 2015. Dr. Lewis was instrumental in establishing the Wayne State University Black Medical Association Scholarship Fund. He was the past-president of the WSU National Alumni Association and past-chair of Pathfinders in Medicine. In lieu of flowers, contributions: The Elma Lewis Endowment and/or the Taylor A.
