Parkersburg News and Sentinel, May 5, 2017: Robert Edwin Root,Jr., 74 of Parkersburg, WV died at the Marietta Memorial Hospital on May 2, 2017. He was born in Cutler, OH on December 17, 1942 and was the son of the late Robert Edwin Root Sr. and Opal Mae Springston Root. He retired from the Post Office, had worked for Western Electric, DuPont Road, and Dils Motor as Parts Manager and Heavy Truck Sales. He was a veteran of the Air Force, was a member of the Western Historical Society, Barlow, Washington County Historical Society, Ohio Genealogical Association, Belpre Historical Society, Root Covered Bridge Society, Cutler Heritage and Legency Society.
Survivors include his two daughters, Angela Shank (Dr. Terry), Davisville, WV, Natalie Snyder (David), Little Hocking, OH, a sister, Carol Dennis (Ron), Marietta, brother, Richard Root (Judy), Parkersburg, sister-in-law, Jane Root of Little Hocking. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Daniel, Huntar, Chase, and Sophia Shank, Stephanie and Jonathan Snyder, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, a brother, William Root, a sister, Sue Waterman and his companion, Judy Johnston.
Services will be on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre with Pastor Tim Lindsey officiating. Military Services will be conducted by Post #15 American Legion, Parkersburg W.V.. Burial will follow in the Barlow Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and one hour prior to services on Monday.
