Fred E. Turner, son of Carl and Dorothea Turner, was born February 1, 1928, in Cowden, Illinois. He passed away on May 3, 2017, at Willowbrook Care Center in Effingham, Illinois.
He was a lifelong resident of Herrick, Illinois. He started working at a young age at the family business, Turner Implement & Auto, until it burned in 1957. At that time, he became a farmer, an occupation he loved, until he retired at age 80. He also managed Interstate Producers Livestock Association in Shelbyville, Illinois, for thirty years.
He leaves his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary, and two children, Donna (Andrew) Ertel of Manteno, Illinois, and Brad (Kim) Turner of Herrick, Illinois; five grandsons, Matthew (Snigdha) Weinberg of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Charles Weinberg of Champaign, Illinois, Lucas (Christy) Turner of Mattoon, Illinois, Seth (Anna) Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Alex Turner of Springfield, Illinois. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Lauren Turner, Lena Weinberg, and Deven Weinberg. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Marcus Turner, and brothers William Turner, Lee Roger Turner, and George Turner.
He enjoyed working in his yard, was a member of the Herrick United Methodist Church, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan who never missed watching a game with Mary by his side.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. May 6, 2017 in the Herrick United Methodist Church, Herrick, IL. Service will be 12 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 in the Herrick United Methodist Church, Herrick, IL. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery, Herrick, IL.
