Mr. Simmons was a member of the National Guard, and was an educator with the Jeff Davis County Board of Education, serving as a Teacher, Principal, and School Superintendent. After retirement he was employed with the Georgia State Prison System. He was a member of Towns Bluff Park, the Historical Society Museum, retired Teachers Association, Veterans Association, and friends of the Library. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Page Simmons of Hazlehurst; Daughters and Son-in-Laws, Page and Carey Smith of Savannah and Laurie and Shellie Lewis of Brunswick; two grandchildren, Joshua Herrin and Jacob Lewis.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, May 07, 2017 at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst with Rev. Brad Waters officiating. The interment followed in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
