MP, Private Secretary to Lord Clive, Joint-Secretary of the Treasury, Under-Secretary of State, Master of the Household to George III.Sir Henry Strachey, 1st Bt. was born on 23 May 1736 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1 He was the son of Henry Strachey and Helen Clerk.1 He was also reported to have been born on 23 May 1737.2 He married Jane Kelsall, daughter of John Kelsall, on 23 May 1770.1 He died on 1 January 1810 at age 73 at Hill Street, Berkeley Square, London, England.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Pontefract between 1768 and 1774.1 He was Secretary of the Commission for restoring peace in America in 1774.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bishop's Castle between 1774 and 1778.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Saltash between 1778 and 1780.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bishop's Castle between 1780 and 1802.1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State, Home Department between 1782 and 1783.1 He held the office of Master of the King's Household in 1794.1 He was created 1st Baronet Strachey, of Sutton Court [U.K.] on 15 June 1801.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for East Grinstead between 1802 and 1807.1
