John Henry was employed by Borden Manufacturing for 20 years. He later was employed by Griffin Exterminating and retired from there after 25 years of service. John Henry played USSSA softball for 18 years and later was a coach for 12 years. He received the Tom Caulberg MVP Award in 1968. He was inducted into the North Carolina USSSA Hall of Fame as an outstanding manager in 1998. John Henry was an avid fan of Jeff Gordon, NASCAR, UNC Tarheel basketball and football, and the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emma; his sons, John Brogden, Jr. of Goldsboro, David Brogden and wife Lori of Pine Level, and Brian Brogden and wife Beverly of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Jason, Cody, Stephen, Luke, and Jada Brogden and Josh Price; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service celebrating John Henry’s life will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Clifton Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
