Gerald Douglas Hicks, born March 20 1933 passed away April 30, 2017. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Sherman Hicks and Terrell Hicks; brother-in-law Paul V. Melvin, nephew Paul V. Melvin II and parents Troy Lee Hicks and Estha Richardson Hicks. Gerald will be greatly missed by his siblings, JoAnn Melvin, T. L. Hicks and wife Patricia, Jackie Hicks; sister-in-law, Shirley Hicks; nieces and nephews, Dale Drude, Steven Drude, Sharon Rojas, Lisa Ziebarth, Tammie Spikes, Rebecca Hunter, Jennifer Smith, Jimmy Hicks, Pamela White; great-nephews and great-nieces, Paul V. Melvin III, John Braswell, Thomas Goss, Stephanie Banner, Candace Coomes, Gabrielle Hunter and several great- great nieces and nephews. Gerald joined the Navy at a young age and made a lifetime career of it. He served the United States Navy for more than 20 years and ended that career as an E8 Chief Petty Officer. After retirement from the Navy he had a second career at Meyers Industry as a Quality Control Inspector. After his last retirement he enjoyed many years of fishing on the Trinity River and Lake Livingston. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Brookside Funeral Home. Graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 pm Saturday at Brookside Memorial Park.
