Herman B. Froehlich passed away peacefully on April 19, 2017 of congestive heart failure. Herman was born in Dickinson, North Dakota on August 23, 1932. He grew up in Dickinson on the family farm until he left for the Army where he served in the Korean War. Upon his return to Dickinson, he met and married Anne M. Sticka on December 27, 1957. In 1960 they headed out west, intending to settle in Portland, Oregon where Anne had family. They made it to Coeur d' Alene where the car broke down and the money ran out. Herman and Anne made their home in Coeur d' Alene for the remainder of their lives.

Herman worked at Northwest Timber, Knudtsen Chevrolet, Louisiana Pacific, and was self-employed for a few years as well. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and camping as a young man. He expanded to golf and perfecting his smoked meats in his retirement years.

Herman really enjoyed having a good time and telling a good joke, always the kidder. He was a longtime member of both the Eagles and Elks clubs and he and Annie were regulars at the Garwood Saloon, making many friends over the years.

Herman is survived by his daughter, Bobbie and husband, Mike; son, Jay and wife, Jeanie; grandchildren: Alana Beck Smith (Ian), Brandon Beck, Kristopher Froehlich, and Jeanie's daughter, Christina Hughes (Phil); great grandchildren: Daniel, Bella, Ezra and Forrest. He is also survived by brothers, Vic, Lee and wife, Jeanette, and sister, Lorraine Sykora; brothers-in-law: Fred Zielie, Paul Sticka (Margaret), Vern Sticka, and Terry Sticka (Cheryl); and sisters-in-law: Judy Duval, Ruth Kain, and Joan Elliott. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob "Jack" Froehlich and Justine Simerad Froehlich Metz; brothers, Ray and Cal; and wife of 40 years, Anne M. Sticka Froehlich.

Herman lived the last 18 months at Bestland Senior Living and the family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the care and compassion he received from the staff and management.

At his request there will be no services. We will be having a Toast to Herman at the Hayden Lake Eagles on May 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Donations may be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.
