Jim was born April 7, 1930 in Roanoke, a son of Silas and Caroline Huber Hodel. He married Doris Getz on Jan. 14, 1959 in Morton. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Terri Carr, Curt (Jenell) Hodel, Jim (Connie) Hodel, Gary Hodel and Linda Hodel; one brother, Roy (Helen) Hodel; one sister, Dorothy (Marvin) Schmidgall; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Joe Carr; three brothers, Ralph, William and Gerald Hodel and five sisters, Mildred Aeschleman, Norma Baumann, Irene Legel, Verda Blunier and Malinda Gerber.
Jim farmed in the Roanoke area all of his life. He was also the owner of Jim Hodel Inc., a short line livestock equipment dealership. He served on the board at Roanoke Farmer’s Association and had been a past president.
He was also a member of the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and church trustee. He enjoyed volunteering at the Midwest Food Bank and Mennonite Relief Sale where he had made many friends. His greatest love was spending time with his family and grandchildren. Jim also enjoyed traveling and music, especially deer fries where he loved to sing and play his guitar.
