Mary K. Smith, 92, of Connersville, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at Lincoln Center in Connersville.
Mary was born on September 2, 1917 to H. Earl and Bessie M. Grubbs Abernathy in Fayette County. She graduated from Connersville High School and continued her education at Business College. A social butterfly, she was very active politically, and an avid gardener who especially enjoyed growing roses. Mary was also a Commissioned Kentucky Colonel.
Mary is survived by her caregiver and niece: Donna Sue Handley of Everton; nieces: Albertis Burns of Mesa, Arizona; Caroline Rector of Florida, Linda Abernathy of Laurel; nephews: Fred Abernathy, Jr. of Laurel, Albert M. Abernathy, and Radley J. Abernathy, all of Connersville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Roland Smith; brother: Donald E. Abernathy, three nephews: Eugene Handley, Leland Handley, and Adrian Handley.
