Analytical chemist and real estate tycoon. Smiley joined his brothers Bethel Blanton Tatum and Judson Hugo Tatum in Miami in 1902 relocating from the Tampa, Fl area. There he had been involved in the laundry business, truck farming and citrus growing and finally selling a headache cure "Tatum's Elektro Pain Kure." A smart businessman he would eventually be involved as director or officer of 68 companies or corporations. Smiley had a daughter, Mayme Lillian who relocated to New York with her husband.
