Billy Lee Fortner, 72, died Feb. 9, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus. Services are Monday at 10 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Fortner was born May 19, 1934, in Caledonia to the late Buron Lee Fortner and Ethel Adene Aldridge. He graduated from Caledonia High School and attended Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi. He spent 20 years active duty in the U.S. Airforce and retired in January 1973. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, in the insurance business and was a realtor/broker at Town and Country Realty for 25 years where he was co-owner. He was a member of the Magnolia Kiwanis Club, Columbus Lodge No. 5 F&AM, a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner and the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Gene Fortner; and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Martha Woffard Fortner of Columbus; daughter, Sandra Fortner Brock of Franklin, Tenn.; son, Billy Fortner Jr. of Woodbridge, Va.; and three grandsons. The military will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
