Oscar Begiebing "Doc" Roberts, 91, of Jacksonville died Dec. 17, 2008, in Mountain City, Tenn. He had moved to Tennessee following the death of his wife, Iva, in 2002 to be near a daughter. Born on March 13, 1917, the oldest son of Raymond Sawyer and Caroline Begiebing Roberts, he attended schools in Jacksonville, graduating in 1935. He then attended diesel school in Boston and began working at the E.J. Roberts & Son auto dealership in Jacksonville with his father and grandfather. On June 17, 1939, he married Iva Babbitt of Brattleboro. They resided in Jacksonville for 60 years where he managed the dealership until selling the business in 1985 when he retired. A veteran of World War II, he joined the Army in 1944 and was stationed in France and Belgium. He loved to garden and fish. He was also an avid hunter, taking several trips to Canada and out west to hunt moose, caribou and elk. He leaves two daughters, Terry Roberts de Anzizu of Barcelona, Spain, and Judy Mowbray of Shady Valley, Tenn.; two brothers, E. James Roberts of Naples, Fla., and William E. Roberts of Hinsdale, N.H.; a special granddaughter, Andrea Rowdon of Salisbury, Md., and several nieces and nephews. A third brother, Richard, died in 1954. A memorial service will be held in April in Jacksonville.
