Carl McKinley Kidwell III, of Vichy, was born on November 5, 1940, at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, a son of Carl McKinley, II and Delma (McMillion) Kidwell and departed this life at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 27, 2017, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mr. Kidwell had attained the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 22 days. Mr. Kidwell was united in marriage on December 10, 1965, at Arlington, Virginia, to Peggy Evelyn Barker, and to this union, two children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Kidwell was a member of the Rader United Methodist Church and a member of the Rader Cemetery Board for over 20 years. He enjoyed his grandchildren and all family activities.

On January 28, 1960, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Kidwell entered into active federal service in the Navy of the United States and served until February 29, 1980, when he was honorably discharged at the Naval Security Station, Washington, D.C., at the rank of E-7. Prior to his discharge, Mr. Kidwell was stationed at the Headquarters of the Naval Security Group Command/SIGSEC, Washington, D.C. and was awarded and entitled to wear the Fifth Good Conduct Award and Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Award and Medal as well as many other medals, awards, and citations. A man of excellent character, Mr. Kidwell’s “Honorable Discharge” is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country, the United States of America.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Kidwell include: his wife, Peggy Kidwell of the home in Vichy; his children, Patricia (Robert) Benefield, Vienna and Carl M. (Lori) Kidwell IV, Ladson, South Carolina; his sister, Gladys Wilson, Beckley, West Virginia; his grandchildren, Sara (Colin) LeVasseur, Vancouver, Washington; Craig Justus, Ladson, South Carolina; Amanda (John) Beam, Springfield; Allie Kidwell, Ladson, South Carolina; Tyler Kidwell, Ladson, South Carolina; Ashlee Brooks, Beaufort, South Carolina; and Amber Breidel, Clemson, South Carolina; his great-grandchildren, Landon LeVasseur, Westin LeVasseur and Evelynn Ann Marie Brooks; and many other relatives and friends.

A private family funeral service will be held for Mr. Kidwell on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home.

Interment with full military honors will be in the Rader Cemetery near Vienna under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rader Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home.
