Mike was raised in Attica until moving to Warren County, just outside Williamsport in 1963. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1971. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University and later his Master's Degree in Psychology from Indiana State University. Mike has lived in Terre Haute since 1973.
Mike was working with the Gibault Children's Services in Terre Haute for 32 years. He was a licensed clinical counselor and drug addiction counselor with the Gibault Children's Services. In 1994, Mike became a licensed social worker and in 2000 became a mental health counselor. Mike had a great passion for his counseling of the children at Gibault and often would mentor the kids by taking them on field trips to ball games and races.
Mike grew up attending the Williamsport Christian Church. He enjoyed NASCAR and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr. He also enjoyed collecting arrow heads and matchbox cars. He recently took up making candles and raising flowers. He had a fondness for animals. He also enjoyed the time spent with his great-nephews "his racing buddies", Gabe, Nate and Eli, going to the Brickyard 400 race in Indianapolis.
In 1973, Mike married Joyce Watson in Williamsport and she preceded him in death.
He leaves behind his mother, Patsy "Pat" Marlatt, Attica; a brother, Edward (Lori) Marlatt, Wonder Lake, Ill.; a sister, Patty Marlatt, Crown Point; seven nieces, Chris, Shannon, Elizabeth, Samantha, Jennifer, Courtney and Kristin; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; and his pet cat, Fred.
Friends may call at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jerry Burt officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Williamsport.
