Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home

Howard Accola, age 92, of Coon Rapids passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with John Kult officiating. Casket bearers will be Eric Accola, Dana Accola, Ken Sabin, Aaron Kelly, Logan Kelly and Aaron Lantz. Burial will be in Union Township Cemetery in Coon Rapids with military honors conducted by the Coon Rapids American Legion.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids for one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids.

Born on May 27, 1924 on his family's farm north of Coon Rapids, Howard was the son of Osmond and Wilma (Dresback) Accola. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Navy following high school and served four years during WW II. After his discharge, Howard was called back to the Navy to serve during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service he moved back to Coon Rapids and helped his uncle Bob Dresback with his farm operation. Following the death of his aunt and uncle, Howard continued to operate the farm until his retirement in 2001 when he sold the farm and moved into Coon Rapids. He was a member of the Coon Rapids American Legion and the V.F.W. Howard enjoyed golfing, bowling, watching baseball and following the Chicago Cubs.

Howard is survived by two nieces: Clarissa Kelly of Coon Rapids and Andrea Accola-Sabin (Ken) of Swea City, IA; two nephews: Eric Accola of LaCrosse, WI, and Dana Accola (Julie) of Cambridge, IA; one great niece Erica Accola-Lantz (Aaron) of Stanton, IA; and two great nephews Aaron and Logan Kelly of Coon Rapids.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents Osmond Accola and Wilma Hobbs; two sisters: Phyllis and Donna Accola; and a brother Osmond Wayne "Pepsi" Accola.
