Thomas E. Bonner, 76, of Springfield, died at 6:11 am, Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born November 28, 1940 in Springfield, to Charles W. and Irene H. Nemecek Bonner. He married Judith Sexton on October 7, 1967 and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Thomas E. (Deonna) Bonner, II of Springfield; two granddaughters, Lauren Lee and Sara Ann Bonner; one brother, Charles P. (Judy Cervellone) Bonner of Sherman and two brothers in law, Bob Sexton (Cindy Kralik) of Springfield and Larry (Linda) Sexton of Lady Lake, FL and his beloved dog, Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Timothy Bonner.
Thomas was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from the US Naval Reserve after twenty years of Service and from the State of Illinois. He also had owned and operated the Shamrock Tavern.
He was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in accounting from University of Illinois Springfield. Thomas was also a member of St. Patrick's Church and enjoyed making chili and spending time with his family.
Visitation: 9:30 -11:30 am, Monday, May 1, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Monday, May 1, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Reverend Steve Janoski officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League or to Central Illinois Autism Society.
