Frances Tucker Barnett, 90, of Amarillo died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, in Keller.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Southwest Church of Christ, 4515 Cornell St., with Brent Adams officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Frances was born May 26, 1926, in Muleshoe to Della and Arthur Tucker. As the oldest of seven children, she was very involved in helping to take care of her younger siblings. Caregiving continued as she raised her two sons, and loved her role of nurturing her granddaughters. Frances had a full career with AT&T and Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., where she was the first woman in the state of Texas to work in a man’s job as a line framer.

Later in life, she enjoyed visiting all 50 states with her husband, and as a widow, she continued to travel all across the country with her friends. She especially loved her time with Merry Widows and was named queen mother of Merry Widows’ Red Hat Society group.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Barnett; two sons, Don Barnett and Ken Barnett; her brothers, Stanley Tucker and Thurman Tucker; her sisters, Norene Barnett and Verna Watson; and her parents.

Survivors include two brothers, J.O. Tucker and wife Linda of Rogers, Ark., and Jack Tucker and wife Rita of Decatur; a daughter-in- law, Brenda Sorrells and husband Larry of Keller; her granddaughters, Kendra Vaughn and husband Donny and Monica Head and husband Aric, all of a Keller, and Christina Barnett and Paige Clements of Amarillo; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children’s Home of Amarillo or a favorite charity.
