Alan W. Shippy, age 61, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at his home. He was born on February 8, 1956 in Monroe, the son of Melvin and Betty (Strothman) Shippy. He attended Monroe High School.

Alan and Jenell Paulson were united in marriage on June 30, 1979 in Monroe.

He was employed with Cleary Building.

He was a member of the McConnell Genealogical Society; he enjoyed fishing, video games and was a 49'ers fan.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Jenell of Monroe, children: Erin (Brandon) Rudisill of Winslow, IL; Travis and Lane Shippy both of Monroe; granddaughter, Lila Rudisill; brother, Danny Shippy of Lena, IL; several half-brothers, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Julie Shippy.

A Celebration of Alan's life will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery at a later date.
