Civil War veteran who served in Company K, 135th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry from his enlistment in Elyria, Ohio May 2, 1864 to being mustered out at Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio, September 1, 1864. He was the last living member and past commander of the Army-Navy Post, Grand Army of the Republic, in Cleveland, Ohio. With his death, the Army-Navy Post ceased to exist. Records were turned over to the Western Reserve Historical Society. The Cleveland Plain Dealer of September 19, 1941 carried his obituary on page 18. His death certificate appears to indicate that he was cremated.
