Dennis was born on June 18, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Dalton and Marjorie (Miller) Huston. He attended elementary school in Des Moines through the second grade when the family moved to Atlantic. Dennis graduated from Atlantic High School in 1972. He continued his education at DMACC in Graphic Design, and earned his elementary education degree at UNI. Dennis taught in Brownsville, Texas, before returning to Iowa, where he became head print setter at Nationwide Insurance for over 20 years.
He enjoyed drawing and music; making special birthday cards for members of his family and recording his own music from various CD's. Dennis was involved in the puppet ministry and operated the sound board at the Altoona Christian Church. He served the community of Atlantic as vice-president of the Kiwanis Aktion Club at Atlantic Specialty Care; coordinating food baskets and various other items for those in need.
Dennis is survived by his mother, Marjorie Huston of Atlantic; his sisters, Cindy (Randy) Kool and Sherry (Dr. R. Dixon Appel) Davis all of Adel; and his nieces and nephews, Jason (Heidi) Kool and their children, Bridger and Colton, Jeff (Alisa) Kool, Jenna Kool, Mandy (Becca) Grieme and Ashlee (Rich) Rogers and their children, Kendra and Baylee.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dalton; and his grandparents, Charley and Gladyce Miller and Harriet and Russell Hartman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home, with Pastor Garry DeGeest officiating. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday at Canfield Cemetery, east of Pleasant Hill.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for later designation to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Iowa City, which offers guests a wide variety of services free of charge to ease their cancer journey.
