The first Rayners to emigrate from the UK to Prince Edward Island were Edward Rayner and Mary Watson. Edward and Mary raised 11 children - Ann, Sarah, Louisa, Elizabeth, Mary Townsend, Hannah, Edward Rayner Jr, James, Joseph, William Simpson and John.

PEI's PARO Baptismal Records show Mary Townsend Rayner was born Jan 14 1816 in her parents' residence at New London, PEI and was baptized Apr 2 1816 by Rev T. Desbrisay in St. Paul's Church at Charlottetown.

PEI's PARO records show Mary Rayner and Charles Cannon were married in a ceremony officiated by A.V.G. Wiggins on Jan 18 1838.
