Mrs. Cox was born a daughter of the late Leo Washington Hyman and Buena Hyman. She was a bookkeeper and retired from Aiken & Company.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Stanley Cox, Sr.; son, Thomas Stanley Cox, Jr; and her ten siblings, Detroy Ledell Hyman, Nellie H. Harrell, Ellis H. Steele, David P. Hyman, Thomas Hyman, Rebecca H. Woods, Virginia H. Hepler, Grace Hyman, Leo “Bud” Hyman and Lewis Hyman.
