She was first married to John Clifford Stotts on 25 October, 1924 in Wewoka, Seminole County, Oklahoma. They had two daughters, Margaret Pauline Stotts Cox, (22 September, 1925- 29 March, 2017) and Frankie Lucille Stotts Harris, (28 November, 1926-17 April, 2014). Stella and John Clifford Stotts later divorced and she remarried to a man named Gates.
