Mrs. Betty Jean Rainey (Moore), of Boonville, Missouri, passed away at her home in Boonville, Missouri on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the age of 92.
Betty was born to parents Lee and Anna (Hughes) Moore on February 7, 1925, in Alliance, Nebraska.
She grew up as the youngest of nine and attended Alliance High School graduating in 1943.
She was awarded a diploma in nursing from the Minnequa School of Nursing at the Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado, in 1946. She worked as a Registered Nurse at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado, until 1949.
Betty married Edward A. Rainey on September 17, 1949, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The couple raised five children. Ed’s military career took them to numerous locations including Germany and the Panama Canal. They moved to Boonville, Missouri, in 1971 when Ed’s last assignment brought him to Kemper Military School.
Betty was very involved in her church, the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church, and the Boonville Garden Club.
Betty is survived by her five children; David “Bruce” Rainey and wife, Sarah (Rudder) of Columbia, Missouri; Barbara Rainey of Phoenix, AZ; Janice Poole and husband, Mark, of Boonville; Richard Rainey and wife, Sheila (Fairley) of Boonville, Missouri; John Rainey and wife, Suzanne (Ries), of Fenton, MO; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Edward Rainey, in 2011.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church in Boonville on Saturday, May 6, 2017.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church, 407 E. Spring St., Boonville, MO 65233.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of William Wood Funeral Home, Boonville, MO.
