Roy A. Guthrie age 93, of Salem, died at 11:33 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 1, 1923 in Stark County, the son of the late Vernon C. and Charlotte (Eckerman) Guthrie.
Roy retired in 1984, as weld shop foreman from the E. W. Bliss, with 39 years of service. He was a 1941 graduate of the Indian Run School in Augusta, Ohio and was a life member of Hose Club, Salem Amvets Post 45 and Salem VFW Post 892. He was well known as Uncle Roy and touched so many hearts.
A veteran of the U.S. Army during WW II, he served in the Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns, receiving four bronze stars and the Purple Heart.
His wife, Eva L. Guthrie, whom he married March 8, 1943, preceded in death on January 26, 2007; he was also preceded by two sisters, Edith Guthrie and Mary Belle Pitts; and two brothers, Glenn and Art Guthrie.
Survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Salem Amvets Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Avenue, Salem, Ohio 44460.
Arrangements were handled by the Stark Memorial.
